Daniel B. Stanton’s practice focuses on business and commercial issues, civil litigation, and employment matters.  Drawing on experience from a past career in insurance, Daniel assists businesses manage risks during their formation, asset purchases and sales, and strategic planning. 

 

Daniel earned his litigation experience in high-stakes energy, maritime, admiralty, and Jones Act disputes in state and federal courts throughout the Gulf Coast region.  Daniel continues to work with clients on energy, maritime, admiralty, and Jones Act disputes, but now also applies this litigation experience generally in personal injury and commercial litigation.   Daniel has been listed as a Rising Star by Louisiana Super Lawyers from 2018-2023.

 

Daniel assists both employees and employers in disputes including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wage-and-hour claims, including claims under Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, and the North Carolina Wage and Hour Act.  Daniel also advises employers and employees regarding employment and non-compete agreements, employment policies and practices, and compliance with various state and federal laws, including the FMLA, ADA, FLSA, and Davis-Bacon Act.  

 

Daniel also serves as counsel to the Coastal Carolina Regional Airport Authority.

 

When not in the office or a courtroom, Daniel can be found boating on the Trent or Neuse Rivers with family and friends or working on anything that has an engine.

  • Represent tour boat owners and recreational boaters in litigation resulting from collisions and allisions

  • Representation of clients involving contract disputes in bankruptcy proceedings

  • Representation of vessel owners in disputes with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers resulting from damage to underwater structures

  • Representation of vessel owner in dispute resulting from allision of barges with flood control structure

  • Representation of numerous marine and energy companies in litigation in Alabama, Texas, and Louisiana federal courts

  • Representation of various drilling, marine, helicopter, and oil companies in lawsuits filed by offshore workers based on the Jones Act, General Maritime Law, Louisiana and Texas state law and the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act (LHWCA)

  • Representation of numerous marine and energy companies involving significant catastrophes resulting from a rupture of pipelines and explosions

  • Drafting of Master Service Agreements and drilling contracts for various drilling companies and oil companies

  • Representation of clients in matters involving alleged damages to oyster beds and leases

  • Representation of marine and energy companies in U.S. Coast Guard and OSHA investigations

  • Representation of various energy, oil, and drilling companies in litigation involving disputes over contracts with service companies and oil companies, including Master Service Agreements

  • Representation of various energy companies in claims arising from significant catastrophes, which involve contract disputes, personal injury and death claims, environmental issues, and large property damage claims

  • Representation of Caribbean vessel fleet owner in U.S. Coast Guard compliance disputes

  • Represent energy companies against claims by landowners for environmental damage to land resulting from oil and gas exploration and production activity
